Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu celebrated Sheikh Russel Day, the 58th Birthday of the youngest Son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 18 October 2021 in a befitting manner. Expatriate Bangladeshi nationals living in Bhutan including doctors, engineers, UN officials and their family members joined the Embassy to celebrate the day. The celebration started with placing floral wreath by H.E. Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan Mr. A.K.M. Shahidul Karim on Shaheed Sheikh Russel`s portrait set up at the Bangabandhu corner of the Chancery. Message from the Hon`ble President and the Hon`ble Prime Minister on this occasion were read out. A video documentary on Shaheed Sheikh Russel was screened. A special Dua and Monajat was offered for the departed soul of Shaheed Sheikh Russel. Expatriate children read out from the biography of Shaheed Sheikh Russel and took part in a cultural performance. A discussion was held on the significance of the Day where the expatriate Bangladeshi nationals took part. H.E. the Ambassador Mr. A.K.M. Shahidul Karim, in his speech, paid deep homage to Sheikh Russel as well as to the Father of the Nation and recalled the sacrifices that the Bangabandhu’s family made for the emancipation of the people of Bangladesh. He particularly mentioned that the killing of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu was a great loss for the nation. All the participating children in the program were conferred with prizes and gift.
